The Division of Air Quality maintains an air permitting database. Permit records contained in the database can be viewed on-line and printed from following the links below. Facilities listed in the database include those with general permits, minor sources, synthetic minor sources, and Title V (major) sources.
Information contained in the database includes facility location information, and permittee contact information.
Questions related to a specific Operating Permit should be directed to the State Air Quality Contact for a given facility (name provided in the database table).
Questions related to a specific Construction Permit call 701-328-5188 or email the Air Quality division (airquality@nd.gov ), ATTN: Permit to Construct Program.

Ambient Monitoring Reports
In North Dakota, both the Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Mineral Resources' Oil and Gas Division of the North Dakota Industrial Commission receive reports of environmental incidents. Incidents reported to the Department of Health are called General Environmental Incidents.
North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC) is the responsible authority on oilfield environmental incidents.
Compliance and Superfund Sites
All hazardous waste compliance and superfund site data is available through Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 8.
Brownfield Site Data
All Brownfield site data is available through Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 8.
PCB (Poly-chlorinated biphenyls)
All PCB (Poly-chlorinated biphenyls) data is available through Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 8.
The Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program works with owners and operators of underground storage tanks to ensure that the compliance, leak detection, new installations, upgrades and tank closures are completed in accordance with North Dakota's Underground Storage Tank Rules.
Notice about Requesting Animal Feeding Operations Records
NDAC 44-04-32: The State Department of Health shall keep a written record of each individual who requests information and the type of information requested regarding an animal feeding operation permit.
Within seven business days of receiving the request, the Department shall provide written notice to the owner and operator of the animal feeing operation describing the type of information that has been requested and the name and address of the requester.
If an individual makes inquires on more than three files in any one request, the Department shall change the individual a fee sufficient to cover the cost of mailing the notice to the owners and operators whose files are being examined and a fee for copying the records as allowed under section 44-04-18.

North Dakota Department of Water Resources maintains extensive records related to water and watershed data.
Due to the large staff demands for open records, any information requested to the Department which is available on Water Resources' site will not be provided in the Department's Open Records response.

Surface water is water that has collected on the ground or in a stream, river, lake, or wetland; It is related to water that has collected as groundwater or atmospheric water. Surface water is naturally replenished by precipitation and naturally lost through discharge to evaporation and sub-surface seepage into the ground.

Access for Ground Water Monitoring
NDCC 23.1-11-08: The names and addresses of landowners and operators who participate in a ground water monitoring program may not be linked, in any public disclosure, to the findings of the program unless it is determined by rule that a compelling public interest justifies the disclosure. Without that determination, disclosure of the information is a violation of section 12.1-13-01.

1 The Department maintains some records for Class I and Class V Underground Injection Control (UIC) wells in the state, though permits are not required to be filed with the Department when wells are constructed and no change in ownership notification are required, so data may not be up–to–date, nor an accurate representation of UIC wells in the State. The North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC ) is responsible for all other Classes of UIC Wells.
Prior to January 1, 2021, both the Department of Environmental Quality and the Department of Mineral Resources' Oil and Gas Division of the North Dakota Industrial Commission received reports of environmental incidents.

Since January 1, 2021, all environmental incidents have been reported to the Unified Spill Reporting System, which has a Public Access Tool.
