Stage 2 Disinfectant/Disinfection ByProducts Rule - Bromate / Bromide

The Stage 2 Disinfection Byproducts Rule (DBPR) was promulgated in January 2006 and applies to all community water systems and non-transient non-community water systems that add a primary or residual disinfectant other than ultraviolet light (UV) or deliver water that has been treated with a primary or residual disinfectant other than UV. Systems that purchase disinfected water are included in this rule.

FAQ

  • Who must conduct compliance monitoring for bromate/bromide?
    • Community water systems and non-transient non-community public water systems using ozone in their treatment process must monitor for bromate.
  • What is the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for bromate?
    • The MCL for bromate is 0.010 mg/L or 10 ug/L calculated using a Running Annual Average (RAA).
